No singular comic this time, and as big as I am into comics, I haven’t read EVERY entry in the series… While not impossible, I prefer to pick up superhero comics as and when they catch my interest.

Spider-man’s creation is a point of contention, I personally like to think that he’s the creation of both Stan Lee AND Steve Ditko, and that at the very least in the early days of the web slinger, the two balanced each other out, If it weren’t for Ditko, the green goblin would be some ancient demon, and if it hadn’t been for Stan Lee, spider-man would have been corrupted by the Objectivism of Ayn Rand.

In fact it’s because of that last part that I think we can all be thankful that Ditko left the series when he did; Peter Parker prior to Steve leaving was very much becoming a moral objectivist, holding a flawed, and selfish worldview that posits good and evil are as clear in definition as black and white whilst simultaneously as well as dissonantly being hands off with any acts of doing good by others.

This year saw the release of Spider-Man Fake Red from Viz Media, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was a bit contrived with how Peter Peter as black suit spider-man kept repeating the “with great power” speech so that it could be easily revealed to all others necessary that it was indeed Peter Parker under all that Venom, but not a deal breaker for an otherwise fun concept of an everyday person trying to pass themselves off as spider-man when they find his discarded suit.

If you want to get into the series of comics, the internet is full of recommended starting points, and you’re best gathering up a general consensus, seeing what about any one reader synopsis speaks to you personally and then diving in. Also though I’m a paper and ink reader myself, Spider-man like many western comic series looks pretty good in digital formats too.
